Chillin' on a Saturday with Four Chill Artists
2010.01.16

It's foggy and overcast in DC today, so we thought we'd put up four artists that suit the weather-induced attitude.

Setting the mood are the ambient sounds of Canadian electronica artist Aaron Acosta. The Winnipeg native is a composer and sound designer who copiled the album Wave out of his electro-acoustic experimentations in his studio.

Similarly chill is the moody folk of Minneapolis' Andy Elwell. Always creative, mostly touching and frequently depressing songs about love will break New Ground for our GroundWaves listeners.

Back to Canada for the adult contemporary sounds of Sal Lima. The Toronto-based drummer/vocalist has teamed up with friends to bring you the piano- and acoustic guitar-oriented release A Better Day. While the lyrics on the album are intended to convay the message of hope implied in the title, we find that Lima and his crew really shine the most on their instrumental compositions.

Finally, we'll pick up the pace a bit with The Chance, a DC band that may be as down on todays weather as we are. Label-mates with one of our favorite GroundWaves artists, Gist, The Chance produces an up-tempo yet dream-like array of sounds on their aptly-titled EP Dimensions. Rock, trance and brit-pop elements are combined with occasionally anthemic crescendos, bringing to mind a cross between Big Country, the Close Lobsters, and Muse.
